Watchman Monitoring Service for Macs

Watchman Monitoring systematically detects potential issues and reports them to me before they affect your computer. It's a free service I offer to all my clients.

(Note: because Apple strictly controls security and privacy for iPhones and iPads, this service is only available for computers.)

Some of the most important things I monitor are:

SYSTEM PERFORMANCE

Watchman Monitoring looks for things like failing laptop batteries, kernel panics, faulty RAM, unscheduled reboots, and things that your computer already checks for (but doesn't alert you about until it fails completely).

DISK DRIVES

Running low on disk space can happen suddenly and when it does, it has real potential to corrupt a system and cause data loss. Watchman Monitoring can alert me well before that ever happens. I'll also find out about disk problems that may indicate that your drive is failing.

BACKUP SYSTEMS

It’s never a matter of “if” your hard drive will fail, but “when”. That’s why it’s so important that you not only backup but also regularly check if that the backup is being completed successfully. Luckily, with Watchman Monitoring, does all the checking so you don’t have to. I will get an alert if backups not being performed as expected.

Concerned about Security and Privacy?

The Monitoring Client software:

  • cannot track screen or keyboard activity
  • cannot see the contents of your screen with the monitoring client
  • cannot inspect browser history, or other similar user actions
  • cannot read inside user-created data (pictures, documents, etc)
  • cannot see full logs — the software only sends the results of the health checks
  • does not share computer’s physical location*
  • cannot install or update any other software on your computer
  • uses read-only commands to perform its duties

* In cases where a computer is considered stolen or missing, I can request a one-time notification of the reporting IP address from the Watchman Monitoring service. The IP address for a computer is assigned by the company that provides internet service (for example, Comcast) and may give an approximate location for that computer.
